We come to the grammar exercises. Be ready to exploit all what you learned with your teacher. But, focus on these things:

Conditional three: is about something impossible in the past. It’s        also used to express cause and effect : If + cause + effect. So be careful. Find first the cause and put it right after “if”.

For example: You’ll be asked to rewrite this sentence as suggested:

Carol didn’t come to school because she was very sick.

If Carol hadn’t been very sick, she would have come to school.

So we started with the second clause because it’s the cause and we applied the rule of conditional III:  If  + past perfect  ……+ would(n’t) have + Past Participle. Notice that when they the clause is negative, think about the positive; and vice versa.

The passive : I guess you are familiar with. The rule is as follows:

Object + ( the verb to be in the tense of the verb) + past participle + by (the subject ) if necessary.

e.g. He gave me a present.

I was given a present.

In the case you have a modal verb ( e.g. may/ can / must/ should….):

Object + the modal + be + past participle.

e.g: You can’t use a dictionary in the exam.

A dictionary can’t be used in the exam.

reported speech : or indirect speech: is a bit long. But just remember to shit the tense backward to its equivalent:

e.g. simple present   ……( becomes )…….simple past

simple past and present perfect…………………past perfect

past perfect………remains ………….past perfect

can…………..becomes……………could

could…………….could

will………………would

If it’s a yes / no question: e.g. Did you play football. You start with if . He asked him if he had played football

If it’s a wh/ question: keep the wh/ word: e.g. Where did you go? He asked him where he had gone.

Don’t forget tenses. They are very important. You have to look for the clues. That is, you will find in the sentences some words that can help you find the right tense.

Good luck
